Laura Jones

Client
Our dog had always been nervous but this had become worse over time and he had reacted with aggression on a few occasions. This was really concerning for us and having a significant impact for us all at home. We are five weeks into following Adam's advice and we have a much calmer and happier dog and confident in time things will improve further. We are so glad we sought Adam's help and couldn't recommend enough - Thank you!

Michael Baeten

Client
My male sharpei was a nightmare walking and very reactive when seeing other dogs. I started seeing improvements from day 1, a couple of months in now and I am amazed how much Buddy has come on, he's an absolute pleasure to walk now. I'm looking forward to taking him to places where dogs are present now, safe in the knowledge that he has improved and there are no embarrassing moments. Many thanks Adam for your help.

Samantha Taggart

Client
My GSD has come along way with her reactivity by attending socialisation classes with an excellent trainer.  However, her reactivity was still there on walks and with visitors to our home. It’s only been 10 days and I’ve seen a massive improvement. With Adam’s advice and her socialisation classes, Roxy’s world is bright and full of adventure.

Frequently asked questions

How is our online dog reactivity course different to other courses?

This is the only online course that has been created by a certified clinical canine behaviourist and a reactive dog owner, providing both the experience of an expert and the insight of someone who knows exactly what you're going through.

What's the difference between a certified clinical canine behaviourist and a dog trainer?

Anyone can become a dog trainer (there are no standards or certifications), which is why you see such a huge variety - some are positive only, some use harsh aversives like prong collars, some are good and some are bad. On the other hand, clinical canine behaviourists undergo incredibly in-depth and detailed study from the latest scientific research, and are certified by one of the major canine associations. Because they are such experts in their field, pet insurance companies will often pay for behavioural sessions with a certified behaviourist.

Does this course use aversive methods like prong or e-collars?

No. These are very harsh methods to correct and control your dog, and in the majority of cases they are being used by trainers who do not have the full understanding of canine behaviour. This course will teach you how to disagree with your dog in a way that doesn’t elicit any emotion – allowing you to get your dog to stop doing something without resorting to harsh aversives.

Does this course rely heavily on treats?

Treats can be a useful tool for dealing with a reactive dog, but they can’t be relied on in difficult situations. There are other ways to work with reactive dogs to build their trust, and this course shows you not only when treats won’t work, but also what to do when that happens.

Is this course focused on management?

Managing a reactive dog (essentially making sure they don’t go near triggers or people who they could hurt) is an important safety conscious first step. However, if you rely just on managing your reactive dog their behaviour will never change as they can’t learn how to behave in these situations correctly. This course shows you a three step approach to permanently fixing reactive behaviour.

When can I expect results and see improvement?

All dogs are unique, and some learn faster than others. It really depends on a number of factors, including how quickly your dog learns, how often they are successfully exposed to difficult situations they can learn from, and your relationship with them. Most clients see results very quickly (in a week or two), with behaviour improving and reactions decreasing as they learn how to handle difficult situations. It is however a step by step process, so for lasting behavioural change it will be several weeks or more.
